Wearing the appropriate clothing and shoes is an important part of a student’s dance education. If a student is not appropriately dressed for class, they may be asked to observe class rather than participate, or their parent may be called to pick them up.

Also...
- Please do not wear dangly earrings or long necklaces.
- We highly recommend using a hair net when making a bun. (This is required for performances.)
- No gum chewing is allowed in the studio.
- All phones and devices must be silenced and kept inside dance bags in the studio. Unless specifically given permission by a teacher, dancers are not permitted to have phones out in the studio at any time.
Helpful information:
- “Convertible” tights are tights that are designed with a hole in the sole of the foot. This allows the dancer to convert the tights from footed to footless.
- For girls, it is customary to not wear underwear under leotards and tights. It tends to become bunchy or itchy during dance class, and can slide down the leg slightly where it is easily visible through tights. If a dancer feels strongly that she must wear underwear, please try to find a high-cut, skin-tone pair that will be comfortable and not show.
- Whether or not to wear a bra under a leotard is up to individual students. This is a helpful short article about choosing bras and leotards for dance classes.
- If older students opt to wear a skirt for pointe class, it should be a dance skirt, fairly short, and close-fitting. This and this are good examples.
- Boys who are in Ballet III and above should wear a dance belt under their tights. For more information about dance belts, click here.
